Zocuments is building a practical workflow platform for work that starts with documents and ends with a decision, response, or evidence package. The product helps teams ingest records, structure the information inside them, connect related sources, and produce clear outputs without losing the human review that consequential work deserves. We are starting with evidence-heavy operational workflows and are building toward a broader system for document and data automation.

About the role

As a senior engineer, you will work across the product surface: browser experiences, backend services, data models, integrations, and the operational details that make a workflow dependable. You will have meaningful ownership of problems from the first user observation through design, implementation, rollout, and iteration. This role suits someone who likes clear systems, careful tradeoffs, and shipping useful slices of a product while its shape is still being discovered.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship end-to-end workflow features that ingest documents or structured records, help users resolve ambiguity, and produce usable outputs.
• Set technical direction for reliable services, data models, and integrations without overbuilding ahead of evidence.
• Partner directly with product and design to make complex operational work understandable and efficient.
• Build quality into the workflow through tests, observability, safe failure modes, and thoughtful review states.
• Improve how the team learns from production behavior while respecting the sensitivity of the documents users bring to the product.
• Raise the level of engineering practice through design reviews, code reviews, documentation, and mentorship.

Minimum qualifications

• Several years of professional experience delivering production web software with substantial ownership.
• Strong TypeScript and React experience, plus the ability to design and operate backend services.
• Experience with relational data modeling, APIs, and asynchronous or multi-step workflows.
• A track record of turning unclear requirements into a small, testable, useful release.
• Care for security, privacy, accessibility, and the user-visible behavior of software that handles important records.
• Clear written and verbal communication across technical and non-technical work.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with document ingestion, search, extraction, evidence systems, compliance workflows, or other record-heavy products.
• Familiarity with PDF or office document formats and their practical limitations.
• Experience designing integrations with third-party APIs and building resilient background work.
• Experience at a small product team where engineers work close to customers and business outcomes.

In the first months, success could look like making one high-value workflow substantially easier to complete, creating the technical foundation for the next adjacent workflow, and leaving behind systems the team can safely extend.
