First, confirm what the status actually says

Read the live notice

  • Processor and card network, if shown
  • Current reason and case number
  • Whether this is the same transaction as the earlier dispute
  • New response deadline and available actions
  • Whether the portal asks for new evidence, a response to the earlier evidence, or an accept/decline decision

Re-read the first response with fresh eyes

  1. 01
    Compare the claim

Did the customer introduce a different reason or new factual assertion?

  2. 02
    Find the gap

Which sentence in your first response is not supported by a labeled exhibit?

  3. 03
    Update only what changed

Add new, transaction-linked evidence or clarification; do not bury the original proof in repetition.

  4. 04
    Follow the portal

Submit or accept through the processor's stated workflow before its deadline.

What belongs in the second packet

  • The original response or a concise recap of the merchant position
  • The new notice or claim that needs an answer
  • The strongest original exhibits, only if the portal permits or requests them
  • New evidence that directly addresses the changed assertion
  • A short chronology showing what happened between the first response and the new status

If the case is simply marked lost rather than escalated, use lost chargeback: what to do next. If it is still open, the chargeback deadlines guide explains why the deadline in your portal matters more than a general internet estimate. For the written response, start with the chargeback response and rebuttal template, then keep the exhibits in a reviewable response packet.
